Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) is the premier R&D organization of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for carrying out R&D in IT, Electronics and associated areas. Different areas of C-DAC, had originated at different times, many of which came out as a result of identification of opportunities.
The setting up of C-DAC in 1988 itself was to build Supercomputers in context of denial of import of Supercomputers by USA. With the passage of time as a result of creative ecosystem that got set up in C-DAC, more areas such as Health Informatics, etc., got created; while right from the beginning the focus of NCST was on Software Technologies; similarly C-DAC started its education & training activities in 1994 as a spin-off with the passage of time, it grew and made efforts to meet the growing needs of Indian Industry for finishing schools.
C-DAC boasts to be a premier R&D organization in IT&E (Information Technologies and Electronics) in the country working on strengthening national technological capabilities in the context of global developments in the field and responding to change in the market need in selected foundation areas. In that process, it represents a unique facet working in close junction with MeitY to realize nation’s policy and pragmatic interventions and initiatives in Information Technology. As an institution for high-end Research and Development (R&D), C-DAC has been at the forefront of the Information Technology (IT) revolution, constantly building capacities in emerging/enabling technologies and innovating and leveraging its expertise, caliber, skill sets to develop and deploy IT products and solutions for different sectors of the economy, as per the mandate of its parent, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India and other stakeholders including funding agencies, collaborators, users and the market-place.
Dedicated to the furtherance of competent research and development in the firmament of Electronic Materials, the Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET) functions as an autonomous scientific society under Dept. of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), Govt. of India.
Besides augmenting core competence, C-MET envisions attainment of self-sufficiency in the sphere of Electronic materials, components and devices to cater to India’s strategic and industrial- applications, exploiting indigenous resources of raw materials.
CMET's R&D activities at present include development of thick film materials, polymers for electronics, specialty chemicals and glasses, ultra high purity and refractory metals, semiconductors, electronic ceramics and fine powder processing. C-MET undertakes joint R&D, sponsored research, technology transfer and consultancy projects and provides technical services.
NIELIT, New Delhi was setup in March 2000. It is a professionally managed Centre with a proven track record. It is an IT corporate with clear-cut strategies and its various operations are aimed at giving its customers a total package of IT solutions and products. It claims to have proven its capability of providing quality Computer Education and handling large projects of Govt. Organizations in different sectors. It has become an independent Centre of NIELIT since 1st November, 2012 after jurisdiction of Centres. The centre claims to have accomplished many feats in executing various turnkey IT Projects which involved the computerization of many Hospitals and various Government offices of Delhi Govt., PSU and Autonomous bodies of Govt. of India. Preparation of IT Plan has also been undertaken for many Offices of the Delhi Government.
The prime objective of NIELIT Centre, Delhi is to create skilled manpower in the areas of Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology and other related disciplines for making available industry ready professionals as well as to promote e-learning.
SAMEER was set up as an autonomous R & D laboratory at Mumbai under the then Department of Electronics, Government of India with a broad mandate to undertake R & D work in the areas of Microwave Engineering and Electromagnetic Engineering Technology. It is an offshoot of the special microwave products unit (SMPU) set up in 1977 at the TATA INSTITUTE OF FUNDAMENTAL RESEARCH (TIFR), Mumbai. SAMEER, Mumbai was setup in 1984.
The Centre of Electromagnetics, Chennai of the then Department of Electronics (DOE) was merged with SAMEER in 1987. SAMEER Kolkata Centre was set up in 1994 for research & Development in Millimetrewave Technology. Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), is an Autonomous Society set up by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India in 1991, with the objective of encouraging, promoting and boosting the Software Exports from India.
Software Technology Parks of India maintains internal engineering resources to provide consulting, training and implementation services. 6Services cover Network Design, System Integration, Installation, Operations and maintenance of application networks and facilities in varied areas.
ERNET India is an autonomous scientific society under the administrative control of Dept. of Information Technology, Government of India having one of the largest nationwide terrestrial and satellite network with 5 points of presence located at the premier academic and research institutions in major cities of the country. Focus of ERNET India is not limited to just providing connectivity, but to meet the entire needs of the academic and research institutions by providing consultancy, project management, training and other value added services such as web hosting, e-mail services, video conferencing, domain registration, CUG services.
ERNET India is serving more than 1300 institutions in various sectors, namely, health, agriculture, higher education, schools and science & technology. ERNET was also identified by Govt. of India as the nodal network for India and was connected through high-speed link to the pan-European Education and Research Network (GEANT) during 2006 to 2010. The ERNET-GEANT connectivity stands available through Trans Eurasia Information Network (TEIN3).
