Greedy People Ending Explained: Policeman Will Shelley thought he would find some serenity in raising his son by moving to a nice suburban neighbourhood, but he would soon realise that was only a pipe dream. Potsy Ponciroli’s Greedy People is just what the title implies: a movie about greed, which frequently consumes people to the point that they become blind to the difference between good and bad.

Will’s first day at the new precinct had already resulted in an injury to the blood vessels in his eye. A red eye was not on his to-do list for his first day of work, but he was forced to cope with it. While Will went to work, his expectant wife, Paige, began unpacking their belongings and decorating their home.

She didn’t expect to run with a handyman (killer-for-hire) at the paint store, and the suburban neighbourhood only became more interesting to her. Captain Murphy introduced Will and Officer Terry Brogan. Murphy assigned Terry and Will to work together for their daily patrol. Terry had a big personality, but Will was willing to compromise for the sake of the future he envisioned.

Why was Paige afraid of Terry?

Terry took Will to the neighbourhood’s favourite spots on his first day of work. He said that the suburb was normally sleepy and had a low crime rate. Terry opted to visit his girlfriend during work hours, leaving Will with little choice but to wait for him outside his girlfriend’s house.

Murphy opted to go to Chetlo House by himself after suddenly connecting with Will over the police radio and informing him of an 11–15 issue. Terry was too preoccupied to answer Will’s calls when he attempted to reach him. Taking the code to be a burglary warning, Will went into the Chetlo home with a gun.

Virginia Chetlo was in the kitchen when Will accidentally pulled the trigger due to her abrupt movement. When Virginia was not shot, she was incensed to see an unidentified police officer enter her home without authorisation. When she attacked him, Will killed her by mistake while trying to tackle her. She died instantly as the edge of the tabletop cut through her head.

Terry came inside to see Will crying and trembling. Terry grumbled that Will was abandoning him, but he soon realised that something was wrong with Will. Terry briefly thought about filing a police report, and Will was afraid he might lose his job. However, as soon as he realised he would be asked about his absence, he made the decision that they needed to hide the murder. Will realised that the alert he had received about a burglary was actually about a sexual act involving a car. It was all for nought when he killed a stranger.

Terry was shocked to find a large amount of cash in the drawing room. Terry said right away that keeping the money was what was best for them. Terry was going to steal away with his fiancée, and Will was about to become a parent; the money would be useful to them both. As Will was having trouble processing what had happened, Terry quickly assumed command of the story and set up the scenario so that it appeared to be a break-in gone wrong.

The stolen money was stored in Terry’s storage truck, and as soon as things calmed down, they decided to divide it. Will ended up telling his wife part of the truth that evening when he got home, but not all of it. He accused Terry of killing his partner and said that he was forced to support him after they found the money. Paige requested that Will have Terry over for dinner at their house.

She was curious if she could trust him. Terry sensed that Paige was trying to paint a false picture of the dinner invitation. He killed Paige’s dog to warn her not to meddle with him since he was concerned that Will had already told his wife about their crime. Terry tried to act like it was an accident, but Paige knew it was serious. Paige hated Terry and was afraid that one day he would hurt her family.

What happened to Wallace Chetlo and Keith Crawford?

Wallace Chetlo, Virginia’s spouse, pleaded with the police to identify the offender and assured them that he would see to it that the offender received a severe punishment. Wallace was thought to be affluent since he was the island’s only seafood supplier. Captain Murphy instructed Will and Terry to investigate Wallace’s motive after developing suspicions that he had killed his wife. Wallace was not wealthy after all, as the situation proved! Since Virginia had a sizable life insurance policy, Murphy reasoned that since his firm was losing money, he killed his wife to acquire the entire amount.

Wallace’s secretary provided an alibi by claiming that her boss was present at the office when the murder occurred. Murphy asked Will and Terry to investigate Wallace’s past hotel visits after discovering a souvenir from the Oceanside Inn and Spa at the crime site. Murphy was correct to surmise that Wallace, as suggested by an innkeeper, was having an affair with his secretary.

But that was insufficient to link him to the crime. Murphy declared with certainty that Wallace was not the murderer after reviewing the security footage from the prawn supplier. The video evidence showed that he was occupied with work the entire time. However, it appears that Wallace Chetlo was not entirely innocent.

Wallace planned to kill his wife, and he had recruited The Colombian, a killer, to carry out the murderous plan. It so happened that Will accidentally killed Virginia on the exact day that Wallace wanted her dead. The prawn supplier believed that The Colombian had killed his wife and seized the million dollars he had left in the drawing room, per the agreed-upon arrangement.

However, The Colombian immediately phoned him, and when Wallace saw him, he learnt that Virginia had been murdered before his killer had even had a chance to enter the house. Wallace had been working on this plan to divorce his wife for a long time, and now he had to pay the Colombian again, on top of missing out on the sense of accomplishment that came with finally getting rid of her.

Wallace was aware that if he didn’t pay the murderer, he would be dead and if he tried to flee with his girlfriend, he would be held responsible for his wife’s death. He quickly discovered that Keith Crawford, his wife’s masseuse, was the only person who could have taken the money.

Keith catered to Virginia’s sexual desires, and he was at home the morning she was murdered. He had overheard the officers discussing the plan and slyly departed the scene on his bicycle. But when Terry and Will questioned him, he lied about what had transpired to make himself appear innocent.

Keith and his mother had previously devised a scheme to steal the money from Terry’s truck. They were on their way when Wallace unexpectedly confronted Keith. He accused the masseur of taking his money, and as the argument heated up, Keith’s mother intervened and shot Wallace.

Wallace’s girlfriend shot Keith and his mother after getting out of her car. Having witnessed the entire ordeal, Will smiled at their ignorance. He believed that they could now easily get away with their crime and accuse the other party of killing the victim. Unfortunately, Will did not influence the situation anymore.

Why did Terry kill Will?

Terry was attacked by The Irishman, a trained killer, while Will watched Wallace go towards Keith. In a desperate attempt to keep her family safe, Paige turned to The Irishman to get rid of Terry and lead the peaceful life she and her husband had imagined. She had decided to stop Terry anyhow because she was terrified that he would kill her husband to get all the money.

Will gave her the passcode to the truck’s lock, and she took all of the money. She paid the killer to get rid of Terry with half of the money. She thought that once Terry was dead, all of their issues would finally be resolved, but that did not occur. Terry was about to be choked by the Irishman when his girlfriend intervened and prevented him from dying. In the process, the Irishman lost his life.

Terry was aware that Will or his spouse Paige had sent the murderer. He called Will and asked that he provide evidence of his innocence. Will was trembling in terror when he realised that the money was missing, and the only way to find out the truth was to examine the vehicle. Terry insisted that he call his wife right away, but he didn’t think Paige could have stolen the money.

Terry was prepared to shoot Will if it came out that he was guilty and had a gun aimed at him. In addition to acknowledging that Paige had stolen the money, she said Terry might as well have killed them, just as he had slain Virginia. When Terry discovered that Will had deceived his wife and held him responsible for the murder, he became enraged. Without hesitation, he fired his gun at Will, asking her to run for her life in his last moments.

Who ended up with the money?

Paige escaped, but Terry managed to find her. Murphy, meanwhile, learnt that Terry had moved outside the area where police cruisers were allowed. Murphy was sceptical about Terry and Will. The forensic examiner had indicated that the two policemen’ DNA was discovered throughout the flat and that they had been acting strangely. She discovered Will’s body after following Terry to the Southwest storage dock.

She got in touch with Paige to let her know about her husband’s passing and to get an explanation of what was happening. Paige said that Terry killed Will because he was aware of all the details surrounding Virginia’s death. Paige was requested to tell Murphy where she was, but she refused. Although Paige was keeping something from the captain, finding Terry was of the most crucial significance right now. She gave orders to all of her officers to find Terry. Paige attempted to flee the island, but that evening all ferries were cancelled.

Terry confronts Paige during the conclusion of Greedy People and informs her that Will was the one who had killed Virginia. Rage had taken over Terry’s actions, and he was angry that Will and Paige had thought he was foolish. He felt he had done nothing except offer support, but all he got in return was dishonesty. Terry was ready to pull the trigger when Murphy, who had arrived on time, shot him in the chest.

Paige was rushed to the nearest hospital after Terry passed away instantly. Murphy questioned her after she gave birth before she could meet her son. She was curious as to why Terry was pursuing her, and she was certain that Paige was withholding something important from her. Paige persisted in telling her narrative, saying Terry had gone insane and she didn’t know why he was pursuing her. Murphy told Paige that whatever it was she was keeping hidden from her would follow her for the rest of her life.

But she was not allowed to know about the money by the new mother. Given that she had lost Will, she believed she was entitled to the money. Her son’s safe existence was ensured by the money, which was her main source of comfort. Paige was unaware, though, that a murderer was waiting for the ideal opportunity to kill to hide directly outside her room.

The Colombian entered the room as Murphy was leaving, killing Paige. He entered the lift after taking the bag containing the cash. The Colombian had been waiting a long time for the money, and when he heard Keith name the two police officers before his death, he realised what was happening.

The Colombian’s victory was short-lived, though, as he saw that the woman entering the lift after him was armed. It turned out that the woman was Wallace’s secretary, and she had ulterior motives. The money ended up with no one after the two killed each other in the lift. Since Murphy was the one who discovered the two killers in the lift, we can presume that the money was eventually taken by the police.

Who adopted the baby?

There was one happy ending to the tale—Captain Murphy—even though the majority of those even somewhat connected to the crime perished horribly. She was devastated to learn that her adopted son had died from a terminal illness. Murphy was a hard-working, honourable police officer who also happened to be very fortunate. Murphy was always on the right side of the law, but most of the deaths were caused by miscommunications and the circumstances around the individuals.

Murphy offered to adopt the child after Paige passed away in the hospital. This coincidental event was both unexpected and exquisite. Murphy was granted another opportunity to become a mother, and the child could grow up fearing that the money that was taken would never again be a threat. In the end, those who displayed greed had to pay a heavy price. Had Paige told Murphy the truth, perhaps she might have lived. On the other hand, everything was essentially a coincidence, with multiple possible outcomes for every action.
