Eligibility Criteria
Education Qualification
Civil Engineering
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (50% for SC/ST).
- Valid GATE score for 2022/2023/2024.
- GATE Paper: Civil Engineering (CE)
Electrical Engineering
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (50% for SC/ST).
- Valid GATE score for 2022/2023/2024.
- GATE Paper: Electrical Engineering (EE)
Chemistry
- Master’s Degree in Natural Sciences or equivalent (in Chemistry discipline) with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (50% for SC/ST).

- GATE Paper: Chemistry (CY).
Age Limits
BIS has set an age limit for applicants. Here’s what you need to know:
- The maximum age is 30 years as of August 16, 2024 (the application closing date).
- SC/ST candidates get a 5-year relaxation.
- OBC candidates get a 3-year relaxation.
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities can get up to 15 years of relaxation, depending on their category.
Selection Process
BIS will select candidates through a multi-stage process. Here’s how it works:
Stage 1: GATE Score Shortlisting
- BIS will shortlist candidates based on their GATE scores from 2022, 2023, or 2024.
- They’ll rank candidates according to merit.
- In case of a tie, they’ll consider the higher percentile and the candidate’s age.
Stage 2: Interview
- Only shortlisted candidates will get an interview call.
- BIS will decide how many candidates to call based on their regulations.
- They’ll verify your documents before the interview.
Stage 3: Final Merit List
- Your final selection depends on your aggregate marks.
- GATE score carries 85% weightage.
- Interview performance carries 15% weightage.
- If there’s a tie in aggregate marks, BIS will consider the higher GATE score and then the candidate’s age.
